Summer Hall Pottery

Biography

Summer Hall was born and raised in the shoals - a cluster of small towns located in North Alabama. She received her BFA (ceramics) from the University of North Alabama in 2020. She spent this time translating a passion for writing into a way of visual storytelling, by exploring surface design on her handmade pieces.

Following graduation, Summer relocated to Huntsville, AL. She began teaching and adapting her practice while working out of her studio in Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment. She moved to Columbia, MO in 2022, where she is currently an artist-in-residence at Access Arts.

Since beginning her journey as a ceramicist, Summer's identity has fluctuated between student, teacher, resident, barista, and briefly, camp counselor. One thing that hasn't changed is a promise she made as a student in her first ceramics class - "commit to being an artist." Summer's work is meant to form a bridge between poetic and functional. Each piece presents a visual narrative that gains a new life through the viewer.
