Artist Statement

We connect to others with our words, our stories, our experience. This work is about that connection and the ways in which empathy can feed us. Each piece, or series of pieces, pulls imagery from a poem. Both the poem and the piece can stand alone, but the juxtaposition of the two can give the viewer a better understanding of the work. The decoration tells a story through repeated imagery, commonly a female mannequin or certain types of furniture. The visual narrative is meant to be vague enough to cause a sense of questioning within the viewer, but clear enough for one to attach a meaning with which they resonate.
